I visited this kindergarten in a remote village in Ukraine back in 2017. Many of the children came from deeply challenged households - it was extraordinary to see how all the kindergarten carers went out of their way to fill in the gaps and provide a nurturing and loving home-like environment for every child. ⁣

To me as a photographer these images are also about really being with children, in their world, being allowed in… and simply honouring someone through the camera. ⁣

I’m grateful to photography for letting me revisit these moments of connection, for the reminder that they did happen and that I had the children’s trust. What a privilege.⁣
