Just Do It!
Perfectionism is a form of creative suicide.
Every time I take pride in going the extra mile after the extra mile after the extra mile and chuckle in delighted recognition when someone calls me a perfectionist - I’m suffocating, killing, murdering my ideas, creative output, the energy that wants to come out of me - not “improved” and not somewhat stale and mouldy from sitting around, but raw and alive. Not next week or next year, but right here and now.
How many fascinating jobs have I turned down simply because I wasn’t 100% sure I could do it 100% perfectly...🙈
How many incredible playful fresh ideas never saw the light of day and just kept driving me insane - carrying stuff around without acting on it, makes for a very noisy cluttered brain!
I remember watching the film “Coyote Ugly” as a teenager (for those who missed it in the early 2000s or weren’t born yet 😆 the lead character was a young woman who loved to sing and had a great voice but was afraid to use it. The whole plot revolves around a guy helping her overcome it and finally succeeding. For the duration of the entire film I remember thinking: “what’s her problem? just get on with it” 😆
I guess what I’m saying is E N O U G H 😆 Time to stock up on some metaphoric Nike T-shirts!
