Introducing James D Fell
Today I’m celebrating the 90th birthday of my extraordinary student James D Fell. He became a serious photographer at the tender age of 83 and we have been working closely ever since.
In honour of his special birthday today we are launching his brand new website!
I don’t think I have met anyone so incredibly open-minded and playful, yet diligent, 100% committed and disciplined at the same time. I just love his curiosity and deep sincere interest in human life.
10 years ago James lost his wife and, while retreating into his shell wouldn’t be entirely unexpected, he figured out a new purpose and a way to stay connected to the outside world by engaging with people more than ever through his camera.
I couldn’t be more proud of him, and frankly grateful for the unexpected opportunity brought by the lockdown life we’ve been having in the UK since March last year: without losing my ability to constantly fly somewhere, I would not have had the time and focus to see through such a big curatorial project that required us to delve deep into James’s archive of the past 7 years.
Have a look at a small selection of treasures I curated on his brand new website! We are planning to show much more of his stunning work in exhibitions and a publication, so watch this space!
